Common Name:Hummingbird, Anna's
Scientific Name:Calypte anna
Family:Trochilidae
Area:Salemtowne - Salem, Oregon
Date:October 18, 2015

Anna's are year around residents of the West Coast, and probably our most numerous hummingbird. The top photo by Jeanette Scott is of a male. Their bright iridescent ruby hood will many times appear to be black. They seem to have the ability to change the angle of the feathers to effect the color. The lower photo is of a female.
