Teetering back and forth will be your first clue on this sandpiper. Normally you will see it alone not in a group as you would sandpipers on the beach. The spotted plumage is only during the breeding season. The third photo below shows the non-breading plumage without spots, the second photo shows the in between plumage. The fourth photo shows a male nesting. |
